I didn't expect much of Liverpool. Truthfully, I just booked my trip there to see Joan Rivers on stage for the second time. Then when she died I didn't even look forward to going anymore, but since I couldn't get a refund for the flights I still went and I'm so glad I did! The Liverpool docks are the architectural highlight of England, the modern and futuristic shopping centre merits a visit in and of itself, the Empire Theatre (where I saw Joseph the Musical as a substitute) is an incredible grand old theatre and the beautiful Museum Street with the rebuilt Library is awesome to walk around in as well. The Cathedral is one of the most immense buildings I've ever set foot in and hearing the choir sing I was touched by their faith even as an agnost. Liverpool is gorgeous, the people are nice, it's fresh, vibrant and modern, has a rich history even for those not interested in the Beatles and is simply a city that should be on every European wishlist.
