Went on a Collins day tour from Dublin (9am departure, 6pm arrival) to Glendalough in Wicklow and Kilkenny and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a day out of the city, just as I would recommend Kilkenny in itself. It is the epitome of Ireland: an amazing castle, a beautifully historic city centre, an old church and a cathedral. Going to Kilkenny Castle is a must, the outside is breathtaking movie scenery in itself (MUCH more beautiful than Dublin Castle) but the interior is renovated and put back to its original 19th century state so beautifully you simply must visit it when in Kilkenny. Staff is very kind and informative, love to answer questions, and admission is not expensive (students only pay €2.50). The Black Abbey church is free, gorgeous, and has got the largest stained glass window of Ireland.
