This historical city is a delight for lovers of old buildings. The centre within the old fortifications has narrow cobbled streets with many fine examples of classic town houses. Big windows and muted colours prevale.
Large use of bicyles makes traffic almost non existant within the city, although you have to get used to looking before you cross.
Some larger buildings have colourful shutters. There are also pretty waterside walks and streets with lots of typical Dutch barges and boats.
Market day on Friday turns the centre into a busy and noisy place as the sellers compete for customers.
